Ms. Speckled Bush
7 unique anthotypes: artist made stinging nettles emulsion, cotton scrim, bamboo support, excerpt from Compost Heap text
This series of anthotypes takes root in a serendipitous encounter with an inquisitive speckled bush cricket. She wandered and explored the mini landscape on my desk for several days preceding her departure. Parallel to the ephemerality of anthotypes, so too was the transient presence of this cricket. Using a handcrafted emulsion made of unseasonal stinging nettles*, memories of the cricket became palpable once more.
*One of the chapters in the artist’s book, Compost Heap, explores the unseasonality of the materials used in this work.
